"O lună în Thailanda," or "A Month in Thailand," plunges us into the fragile dynamic of a modern Romanian couple, Adina and Radu, against the backdrop of a Bucharest winter. As the day dawns, their intimacy reveals a deeper imbalance. Adina yearns to solidify their relationship, eager to cohabitate and build a future together.
However, Radu's enthusiasm is noticeably muted. He seems to passively accept Adina's aspirations, hinting at underlying hesitations. As New Year's Eve looms, their agenda is packed: a familial visit to Adina's parents is swiftly followed by a festive gathering with friends, adding pressure to their already strained connection.
Amidst the pre-celebration frenzy, a trip to the supermarket for last-minute purchases throws Radu off balance. He believes he catches a glimpse of Nadja, an ex-girlfriend who continues to occupy his thoughts. This chance encounter sparks a wave of self-doubt and insecurities, leading him to question his relationship with Adina.
The celebrations barely begin before the tension between Radu and Adina reaches a breaking point, abruptly ending their relationship. As quickly as the relationship ends, Radu is met with an offer from his friend Alex, inviting him to join their New Year's Eve revelries.
Driven by the faint hope of a reunion with Nadja, Radu eagerly accepts. He welcomes the distraction and the possibility of reconnecting with the woman who still lingers in his mind.
Director Paul Negogescu masterfully paints a portrait of Radu, using sharp observations and subtle irony to depict his character. The film flawlessly captures the ambiance of a New Year's Eve in Bucharest, grounding the characters' emotional turmoil in a relatable and authentic setting.
