Twelve Monkeys

In a dystopian future, specifically the year 2035, humanity has been decimated by a catastrophic virus, driving the remnants of civilization to seek refuge in subterranean bunkers. Amidst this grim reality, James Cole, a prisoner, is compelled to undertake a perilous mission: to journey back in time and unravel the enigma surrounding the outbreak that ravaged the planet. His task is to pinpoint the genesis of the virus, hoping to acquire information that could potentially reverse the course of history.
Unfortunately, Cole's initial foray into the past goes awry when a temporal miscalculation lands him not in the intended year of 1996, but rather in 1990. Disoriented and struggling to reconcile his accounts of the future with the reality he finds himself in, he is deemed mentally unstable by authorities. Consequently, Cole is apprehended and confined to a mental institution, a stark departure from the research facility he anticipated.
Within the walls of the institution, Cole's path intersects with that of Dr. Kathryn Railly, a psychiatrist who initially perceives him as delusional but is eventually drawn to the compelling nature of his claims. He also encounters Jeffrey Goines, a charismatic and eccentric individual who is the son of a renowned virologist. Goines, with his radical views and volatile nature, may possess crucial insights into the enigmatic Army of the 12 Monkeys.
The Army of the 12 Monkeys, a mysterious organization, is widely suspected to be the architects of the devastating plague. As Cole delves deeper into their origins, he begins to question his own sanity and grapple with the complex nature of time travel. The journey takes them through different timelines, confronting them with moral dilemmas and challenging their understanding of causality. Cole and Railly race against time, searching for clues that could avert the apocalypse while simultaneously battling their own internal demons and the skepticism of a world that refuses to believe their warnings.
